Damascus, Now and Then

My friend send me these photos by email. This is Abu Rummaneh street in Damascus, the first photo was taken in 1940 and the second was taken in 2000.

*Abu Rummaneh is an upper-class neighbourhood in Damascus. Located in the heart of the capital, it holds many trendy shops and restaurants.

I love photos like that.
The biggest difference I saw was the lack of residential buildings on Kassioun.. and tha palm trees ;)

I love the old picture, I would love to visit Damascus in 1940.
The one thing I really do love about the new picture is that somewhere in that jumble of houses on the slopes of Qasuin is my house.

Omar: I'm glad they planted the palm trees because they're what I like best in Abu Rummaneh.

John: I too would have liked to see Damascus in the 40s, the elders in my family keep telling me how good it was back in those days. I liked the second one as well for the very same reason you did :)

eh!...sub7an el dayem!...

I don't like to see Damacus in the 40s..because in that time I should ride horses and I can't flight or travel!

WOW WOW WOW ....
the older i go back into this city the more i love her....
Wish i lived those days of heroism

Great shots

this made me feel sorry ..Damascus was just a land of trees

do you know that the hanging around in the 50's and 60's was in Abu Romaneh street? they used to go and back along the road, as we do around the Jahez garden
